Ideamatch, a product from Idealista, combines data science with the analysis of unstructured data to ensure compatibility with the tenants of an apartment, thereby enhancing the experience of searching for a room in a shared flat.

— Overview

Spain's rental market has seen considerable fluctuations in recent years. Urban areas, especially cities like Madrid and Barcelona, have experienced soaring rental prices, driven by factors such as tourism, short-term holiday rentals, and increased demand from a younger demographic preferring to rent rather than buy. As a consequence:


High costs: Renting in urban hubs, especially Madrid and Barcelona, has become notably pricier.


Limited avaliability: There's a marked deficit in long-term rental options in high-demand zones.


Compatibility Issues: Sharing spaces often results in mismatches, making cohabitation challenging.


Contract Hurdles: Many navigate through ambiguous lease terms or face sudden evictions.


Steep Deposits: Initial deposits, often high, can be a major barrier for many.

Create a disruptive product that combines fintech and video games.

This was the challenge we had to face, creating a solution using the Lean UX methodology.

— Procedure

The creation process of ideaMatch was carried out using the Design Thinking methodology, so it would consist of four distinct phases: empathize, define, ideate, and prototype.


Throughout the process, I utilized various tools and techniques such as:


  • Benchmarking


  • Research techniques: 4 interviews, 1 focus group, 125 surveys via Slack and Google Forms


  • Low and medium-fidelity wireframing using Figjam and Procreate


  • High-fidelity wireframing with Figma.

A tool from Idealista designed to help you find a home where compatibility with your flatmates is ensured.

ideaMatch analyzes the user’s profile through the analysis of both structured data, using a personalized questionnaire that presents situations related to cohabitation, and unstructured data, through the analysis of the user’s social media profile. 

The tool allows you to understand the compatibility between a user and the tenants of a property, showing the degree of match in a percentage.

Once you become part of the property, you can rate both the property itself and its owner, as well as your fellow flatmates. This adds value when choosing a home.
